I have lots of other things in my boxes that I could swap in.
Any general tips for building teams? Any specific pokemon I should try and get?

i think 2 pokemons are enough to get you through the snowpoint city.. well what i did was i got infernape and staraptor.. i cant remember the name before they evolved lol.. i think it was monferno (starter pokemon) and starsky (catch them around twinleaf town)? but yeah i only train them both, because fire and flying pokemon are important.. when ur opponent got water/rock pokemon u use the flying pokemon, but when they got grass/electric, then u use the fire type.. i have always used fire and flying pokemon, until i reach the pokeleague then i use the legendary pokemon for helper (reviving pokemon in case they died)..
Hope this help, good luck on your journey!! Andrew

Generally playing through the game it isn’t very hard as long as you realise what moves are supereffective against what. However when you beat the game you get access to a whole array of pokemon and then you need to be careful when building a proper team.
Your team looks fairly decent, get rid of one of the geodudes and try and catch a ponyta (fire pokemon), or Starly/Staravia. Maybe try to get a buizel instead of Pysduck as well. As long as you have a wide array of different type attacks and your pokemon are high level you should do fine.
Types of Attacks you need: Fire, Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, Ice
You have all of these except fire and ice. These are very important so try and put in pokemon with these attacks. Look at Bulbpedia or Seribii for list of moves.
As long as you have at least these attacks you should be able to take on the gym leaders and Elite Four.
Good Luck! poke you lol

i strongly suggest getting a starly and evolving it to a staraptor because it really helped me advance through the game Harry

I disagree with a previous poster that you need all the basic elements. I always have included a grass pokemon such as bulbasaur or roserade and have foudn them to be much less useful than all my other pokemon.
your turtwig, however, will be very useful because he evolves into a grass AND ground type. Because of this I would suggest you store your geodude because evolved turtwig will be able to take care of now only water and rock type, but electric types as well. a doulbe wammy!
machop is great but there are better fighting types if you’re looking to have a fighting type. I generally don’t use fighting type pokemon as they have so many weaknesses.
luxio is very useful, but if possible try to catch an electrike, as it’s evolved form has MUCH better stats. electrike is a swarm pokemon so it may be difficult to get. an alternative electric pokemon (which is just as good) is jolteon. once you get eevee, breed it at the daycare center, hatch it, and use a thunderstone. jolteon is great!
so far your team is fine, just make sure you are able to kill any element/type. Obviously you can’t fit every element in your party, so here’s a good solution, teach a couple of your pokemon moves of the element(s) that you’re missing! such as, if you need to have a fire move, teach one of your pokemon the TM for flamethrower.
I will link some GREAT sites to check out in my sources which help a ton with finding out about which pokemon can do what, and which pokemon fit your style. Captain_Fizz

replace psyduck with a better water type i suggest like a piplip if you can get one or a differnt type luxio is good for now but when you get farther into the game get like a jolton or a evee with a thunderstone machop make it a machoke then trade to get machamp STEVEN♂
