Robotics Team looking to build small robot. What control system should we use? ?

Hey all,
I’m the captain of my local High School Robotics Team and I have started a new project. Unfortunately I have only experience with the First Robotics control system but for this project I need to build a light weight robot (15 lbs or less). Does anyone have any suggestions for what control system to use (Microprocessor/Control Board, H-Bridge/Speed Controllers)
